Welcome to the Fandom Roleplays forum!
Just a few rules to begin with.
General Rules which are more like suggestions:
1) Take other people into consideration. This means think about what you say out of character and what the reaction might be. For example, some people might not be as rich or as well-off as you and if you "complain" about how say, Your father wouldn't buy you a Tardis notebook and instead bought you a "I am Sher-Locked" jumper, people may dislike you.
(Yes, yes. I do realise that was a very poor example.)
2) Please try to use correct grammar and spelling. "Ya" and "Yea" aren't proper words. Please try and use proper words. I'm sure you're all capable.
3) Please try not to be a complete idiot. I'm sure we'd all appreciate it.
4) Respect other people's beliefs. This includes but is not limited to: Religion, culture, ship etc. etc.
This doesn't mean you can't have a different ship (That would be ridiculous ), but please don't publicly hate someone for shipping someone you don't. You are most welcome to privately hate someone by all means.
5) Have fun! (Oh give me a break. I needed 5.)
Roleplay Rules (which really are rules which I would very much prefer if you at least tried to follow because no, rules are not made for breaking despite what T-shirts etc. may claim.):
1) Original Characters: These are absolutely fine and welcome but these characters shouldn't be all powerful and flawless. You know what? I'll just make a separate topic on OC's and if you want to roleplay a OC just read the Original Character Rules thread.
2) Don't control other people's characters. they are not your character. You control your character. They control theirs. End of story.
Eg(Say I'm Sherlock and someone else is John.): Sherlock was in the kitchen, experimenting how the flammability of flesh changes over time. He suddenly realised he needed his phone and called out to John, "JOOHHNNN!!!" When John entered the room Sherlock nodded at his phone.
See the problem (aside from the roleplaying)?
John's roleplayer might not have wanted John to enter the room but Sherlock's roleplayer (me, in this situation) didn't let him/her decide.
3) Roleplaying combat. This can be tricky. It's best in this situation to write short responses such as: Sherlock pulled the trigger and fired, aiming at Moriarty's leg.
This gives Moriarty's roleplayer a chance to either get hit with the bullet, miraculously dodge the bullet or do something else entirely.
4) Love at first sight. Now, personally this really annoys me. Yes, yes, I understand you want to roleplay the Sherlock/Janine pairing or whatever but really? Falling in love instantly is a bit off. Especially if both sides of the relationship fall in love instantly. Feelings should grow, like a flower not just "Boom! Snap! We're in Love!"
(I honestly have no idea if any of that made sense.)
5) Stick to your character. (This is not to say you can't roleplay multiple characters as you can.) You can develop your character, mould them but don't suddenly, for no reason change your character. For example, Mycroft is unlikely to decide he wants to become a consulting detective (worst example yet but hopefully you get the idea.)
Those are the "rules". Now for some "Notes".
1) Not everyone has the same roleplaying style. Some people roleplay like:
I sat on the pedestrian bridge looking over the street below. (First person)
Some like this:
*Sherlock turns to look at the Doctor* Who are you? (I personally usually roleplay like this)
And some like this:
Mycroft looked across at the man standing at the door. "My apologies, John." (I think this is my favourite way because it looks good and is easy to read.
So, given that there are so many styles it might be best if the person who starts the roleplay decides which style they will be using. Or you could just all throw your roleplaying styles and make it a big muddle of styleslike my country is a muddle of cultures. That may make it a little difficult but by all means, try it out.
2) There are some canon characters who arecomplete dickheads difficult. Try not to be offended by them. It is just an effing roleplay. I'm sure it's nothing personal.
3) I am not the most... tolerant and placid of people. I may not always take people's feelings into consideration and for that I'm sorry. (This is by no means an excuse for my beaviour.) If I am rude to you. Be rude back to me. Same goes for anyone. But don't take it to the level of cyber bullying.
4) When in a roleplay and not in character talk in double parenthesis. Like:
Sherlock pushed his hair back from his face. ((Hello to all!))
5) There are many different timezones in the world. Take from that what you will.
Thank you for reading my rules! Much appreciated!
